Shmoney was born from a simple observation: despite M-PESA being the backbone of daily financial transactions for millions of Kenyans, very few people truly understand where their money goes. Bank statements are often disconnected from everyday spending, while manually recording expenses is tedious and unsustainable.
DocSpace Technologies set out to solve this problem by building an intelligent, privacy-first expense tracker designed specifically for the way people transact in Kenya. Shmoney automatically analyzes M-PESA transaction messages, categorizes income and expenses, provides spending insights, tracks transaction charges, and helps users build healthier financial habits—all without requiring manual data entry.
Unlike many finance applications that rely on cloud synchronization, Shmoney processes financial data entirely on the user's device. This local-first approach ensures users retain complete control of their financial information while enjoying a fast, secure, and reliable experience.
The project reflects our philosophy of solving real African problems with technology built for local realities. Instead of adapting foreign financial tools to fit our market, we designed Shmoney around the everyday experiences of Kenyan mobile money users, making personal finance management simple, accessible, and privacy-focused.
